County sports partnerships provide a link between national
strategy and local delivery.
They are funded to deliver a range of core services on
behalf of Sport England and national governing
bodies.
This includes work in areas such as coach, club and volunteer
development, facilities, children and young people and connecting

Local government spends approximately £1 billion per year on sport
and leisure - more than 50% of the total resources available to
sport every year.
Sport England has always worked closely with local authorities
to help them develop sport in their area. And we will continue to
do so as we deliver our strategy for 2008-2011. Our team of
local government experts - who work nationally, regionally and
locally - provide advocacy, advice and support to local
councils.

Promoting good ideas, sharing best practice and ensuring
everyone involved with sport has access to high quality tools,
advice, support and information is essential if Sport England is to
succeed in creating a world-leading community sport
system.
We have developed a range of programmes to support the Government's PE and Sport Strategy for Young
People, including Sport
Unlimited and Recruit into Coaching.
Our work with local government
continues as we work with them to help them connect their
investment strategies with those of national governing bodies.
We provide support to everyone involved with Building Schools for the Future to help ensure
that enhanced school sports facilities also create new
opportunities for the local community to take part. And we continue
to work closely with the county sports
partnerships we part-fund to help deliver sport locally and
connect them with governing body activity in their area.
